Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a guide on how to get started using the app?
How do I sign in using my email address?

HiveBloom uses passwordless email authentication. This means you do not have to worry about remembering a password for HiveBloom, nor do you have to worry about someone else accessing your account by using your password.

To use passwordless email authentication, type your email into the box on the log in page. You will receive an email from noreply@hivebloom.com with a link. Tap the link in the email to return to HiveBloom and you will be logged in.

  3. Tap “NFC Tags”

Splitting a Hive

  1. Navigate to the hive you want to split
  2. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner

  5. The original hive’s inspection history is preserved, and a new hive is created in the same apiary

  3. Tap “Combine Hive”
  4. Select the other hive to combine with

Does the app work offline?

Yes. HiveBloom works fully offline so you can record inspections out in the field without cell service.

Any changes you make while offline are saved locally and automatically synced to the cloud when you reconnect. If you share an apiary with other users, they will see your updates once syncing completes.

Is HiveBloom really free?

Yes! HiveBloom is completely free for up to 2 hives with unlimited inspections. No trial period, no credit card required, no expiration. You can use it forever at no cost.

If you want to go beyond 2 hives or unlock premium features like shared apiaries, advanced analytics, NFC/QR tags, data export, and harvest tracking, you can subscribe for just $17.99/year. That’s less than $1.50/month. You can cancel anytime through the App Store or Google Play.

Treatments

  1. Navigate to the hive you want to treat

Mite Counts

  1. Navigate to the hive

Keeping consistent mite count records helps you spot trends and decide when treatments are needed.

How do smart inspection reminders work?

HiveBloom sends a daily reminder when one of your hives is due for an inspection. The reminder takes weather into account, so you only get pinged on days that are actually workable for your bees.

The app looks at the forecast for your apiary’s location and suggests inspection days that match conditions bees tolerate well. Windy, rainy, or unusually hot or cold days are skipped.

You can set the hour you’d like to receive reminders in your account settings. Reminders default to 9:00 AM in your local time zone.

What are weather alerts and when will I get them?

HiveBloom watches the forecast for each of your apiaries and sends a push notification when conditions look risky for your bees. Alerts cover situations like sustained extreme heat, sustained extreme cold, and other weather patterns worth preparing for.

To keep notifications from waking you up, HiveBloom respects quiet hours. Alerts that would fire between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM in your local time zone are held back and sent the following morning. The alert still appears in the app’s notification list as soon as the forecast is checked, so nothing is lost.

Each alert is only sent once per week per apiary, so a long stretch of hot or cold weather won’t flood your phone.

What are AI Field Notes?

AI Field Notes is a paid feature that reads through your inspection history and summarizes what’s been happening in each hive. Instead of scrolling back through weeks of notes, you get a short, plain-language recap that highlights trends, concerns, and things worth watching.

Field Notes are generated from your own inspection data. The more consistently you log inspections, the more useful the summary becomes.

AI Field Notes are included with the HiveBloom subscription.

Can I dictate my inspections instead of typing them?

Yes. HiveBloom can turn a spoken inspection into a structured entry, so you can keep your hands free and your hive open.

  1. Start a new inspection
  2. Tap the dictation button and describe what you see
  3. HiveBloom parses your words and fills in the matching inspection fields (queen status, brood pattern, temperament, stores, and more)
  4. Review what was captured and save the inspection

Only fields you actually mention are filled in. Anything you skip is left blank for you to fill in by hand if you want to.

Voice dictation works best in a quiet spot away from the bees, but a short recap at your truck after the visit works too.

How do I track honey harvests?

HiveBloom lets you log harvests per hive so you can see which colonies are pulling their weight season over season.

  1. Navigate to the hive you harvested from
  2. Tap “Harvests”
  3. Tap the add button to record a new harvest
  4. Enter the date, weight, and any notes about the honey (color, moisture, floral source, etc.)

Over time, your harvest log builds a yield history you can compare across hives, apiaries, and seasons.

Harvest tracking is included with the HiveBloom subscription.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can delete your HiveBloom account and all of your data at any time. Deletion removes your apiaries, hives, inspections, and any other records tied to your account.

See the data deletion page for the current instructions and contact details.

If you have an active subscription, cancel it through the App Store or Google Play before deleting your account so you’re not charged again.

Can I export my inspection data?

You can export your inspection data as a CSV file directly from the app.

  1. Navigate to the apiary you would like to export the data for
  2. Tap “All Inspections”
  3. Tap the export button in the upper right
  4. Choose how to share the CSV file (email, save to files, etc.)
